Youth Services
Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention
CAPP offers a range of services
formulated to specifically address the issues surrounding teen pregnancy,
HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections. BFNC/CAPP staff works with at-risk teens ages
10 to 21 in targeted zip codes, primarily those in Buffalo's
East Side, to improve access to health care, and to
reduce risky sexual behaviors and teen pregnancy.
The
goals of the program are to:
- Promote healthy sexual behaviors.
- Ensure access to healthcare and family planning services.
- Expand opportunities and provide support for youth.
- Develop a coordinated plan for a community effort to improve the local environment for young people.
- For more information check out our brochure.
Education is Key
CAPP facilitates educational programs in neighborhoods where there is the greatest health and socio-economic burden using a multi-dimensional model including:
- Small group, evidence-based education in such diverse sites as faith-based organizations, schools, group homes, and community centers.
- Mentoring for teens and their parents to help them access appropriate health care resources.
- Youth development activities such as leadership training, summer employment, and conferences. Some activities will be targeted specifically at males.
- Programs to help youth understand risk-taking behaviors.
- Collaborations with other stakeholders.
Summer Youth Employment Program

Each year during July and August, CAPP introduces a group of young people to the world of work. In addition to paid part-time employment in child care, clerical positions and office maintenance, the youth attend mandatory workshops on life skills such as financial literacy; resume writing, education and careers.
'First Things First' Poster Contest
This contest, which awards art
classes at a professional studio and related supplies, gives students in Buffalo an opportunity to
showcase their
creative talents.
Students are asked to design posters illustrating the theme Avoid Teen Pregnancy. The first place
winner's design is produced as a bus card advertisement to promote teen
pregnancy prevention. See: Flyer
and Entry Form.
